Service has been restored to more than 75,000 Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) customers who lost power following yesterday’s massive winter storm that impacted the Mid-Atlantic region.

Currently, more than 130,000 customers remain out of service. The the hardest hit counties include Hunterdon, Morris, Sussex and Warren in northern New Jersey.  Today, JCP&L crews are evaluating damage and isolating damaged equipment to enable repairs to be made.

Customers are reminded to stay away from downed power lines, assume any downed wire is carrying electricity and call JCP&L, police or fire departments to report them.

“We want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we continue to work around the clock to safely restore their service,” said Jim Fakult, president of JCP&L. “The storm’s heavy wet snow, driving rains and gusting winds caused serious damage to equipment. We have more than 200 damaged poles and over 1,000 spans of downed wire.”

JCP&L is offering free water & ice to customers remaining out of service.  Customers can pick up water and ice at the following locations.
