BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The NJSIAA meetings have completed and Governor Livingston Boy’s swim team has gained the second seed in the Central Jersey Group C boys swimming section. The team coached by David Closs finished the regular season with a 6-3 record.

In high school swimming, teams are seeded in the playoffs, not by record, but by a power point system. The points are awarded to a team based on the individual times during a meet. Those points are then stack ranked among the sectional teams to award placement in the brackets and the GL boys compiled 3583 power points. Last season, the Highlanders were seeded 3rd and lost to eventual champion New Providence in the sectional semifinals.

This year’s team is primed for a run in the playoffs. Seeded second, the GL boy’s will have some days off before they go into action. In their half of the bracket, Shore Regional will take on Holmdel in the first round. The winner of that match will head to New Providence to battle the Pioneers.  GL will face the winner of that meet at home in Warren on or about February 13.

If the Highlanders can move past that match, they would set up a likely showdown with Lawrence, the number one seed in the sectional finals on February 16 in Neptune NJ.  The GL team is led by a group of seniors who are looking to bring home the first sectional title for boys swimming in school history.
