BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – The success of the 2018 Governor Livingston Highlander Marching Band was celebrated at Tuesday’s meeting of the Township Council.
Mayor Robert Woodruff acknowledged and honored marching band members sitting in the council chambers before he presented a proclamation from the Mayor and Council to Highlander Band Director Nicholas O’Sullivan.
The proclamation read:
Whereas, the 2018 Governor Livingston Highlander Marching Band under the direction of Nicholas O’Sullivan, with assistance from Josef Ellis, is renowned for its performances during football games and band tournaments; and
Whereas, in 2018 the Highlander Marching Band had the opportunity to travel to Scotland and perform; and
Whereas, the Highlander Marching Band has a stellar performance record, winning the State and Regional Championships and scoring historical high marks at the Pageant of Champions hosted at GLHS; and
Whereas, the Highlander Marching Band concluded their 2018 competition season at the end of October at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship held at Hershey Stadium; and
Whereas, the Highlander Marching Band proudly finished among the five Gold Finalists in Group 2, received the highest group score since 2012, won “Best Brass” for the first time in over ten years and won “Best Drum Major” for the third time in GLHS history; and
Whereas, Directors, Instructors, Musicians and Color Guard Members of the 2018 Governor Livingston Highlander Marching Band have brought recognition to themselves, their school and their community;
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Mayor and Township Council of the Township of Berkeley Heights that the 2018 Governor Livingston Highlander Marching Band Team be congratulated for their outstanding performances during the 2018 band competition season.
