Holy Week & Easter Services at St. John's in Summit

St. John's Lutheran Church invites all to its Holy Week and Easter Sunday services.

All are invited to join St. John's Lutheran Church in Summit for our observance of Holy Week. This is the most important time of the year for Christians worldwide—the celebration of Jesus Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection. These services include the powerful drama, imagery, music, and ritual to help us engage the story of salvation. They are not to be missed!

Maundy Thursday worship, March 29th, will be held at 12:00 noon and 7:30 PM. Individual forgiveness, foot washing, and holy communion are offered as we gather with Jesus in the upper room for the Last Supper.

Good Friday, March 30th, begins with the Community Good Friday Walk at 9:30 AM, beginning at Central Presbyterian Church and ending at St. John's Church. The traditional Good Friday Liturgy at St. John's will be offered at 12 Noon and 7:30 PM as we hear the story of the crucifixion and prayer around the cross.

The Easter Vigil, on March 31st, begins at 7:30 PM. We gather outside to light the new fire, hear stories of God’s faithfulness in the Hebrew scripture, baptize new Christians, and celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter. Afterwards, we continue our Easter feasting with a champagne reception.

Easter Sunday, April 1st, is a truly grand celebration of the resurrection with services at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM. Music, a hallmark of St. John’s worship, will be pulling out all the stops—literally. There will be music by Bach, Handel, and Praetorius, along with newer, global music lead by brass quintet, organ, percussion, bells, and choirs. All are welcome to Easter Brunch at 9:00 AM and an Easter Egg Hunt for young children.

For more information, contact the church office at 908-273-3846 or St. John's is located at 587 Springfield Ave. in Summit, NJ 07901. Find us on the web at and on Facebook.
