SUMMIT, NJ - St. John's Lutheran Church in Summit is inviting the community to join the Church for Holy Week and Easter Services, offered on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil), and Easter Sunday.
Maundy Thursday services on April 13 -- offered at 12 and 7:30 p.m. -- will recall the Lord’s last supper, ask for God’s forgiveness, and remember Jesus’ command to love one another. Worshippers at the 7:30 p.m. service will be offered the opportunity to participate in a foot-washing liturgy.
The Community Good Friday Walk begins the observance of Good Friday on April 14. The walk will begin at Central Presbyterian Church and end at St. John's. Traditional Good Friday services will be offered at St. John's at 12 and 7:30 p.m..
On April 15, Holy Saturday, St. John’s will hold its Easter Vigil at 7:30 p.m.. On this holiest night of the year, worshipers will gather outside to light the new fire, process into the building, hear and celebrate the story of salvation, baptize new Christians, and celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter. Champagne and gourmet treats will cap the evening’s celebration.
Easter Sunday, April 16, will see festival services held at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and celebrate the resurrection of our Lord with brass music, bells, organ, choirs, and joy. A delicious and plentiful Easter Brunch will be served at 9 a.m., as well as an Easter Egg Hunt for young children.
