Faith Lutheran Church in New Providence invites area residents to each of its liturgical services during Holy Week.
On Passion or Palm Sunday, April 9, two Eucharistic liturgies will be conducted, one at 8:30 a.m. and the other at 11 a.m. There will be a dramatic reading of the Passion at each liturgy with the title of the sermon being, “Thanksgiving Confession.” The music of each liturgy will be provided by the Sanctuary Choir, accompanied by brass, timpani and organ.
On Holy Thursday, April 13, a spoken Eucharistic liturgy will be conducted at 12:15 p.m. and a fully sung Eucharistic liturgy will be offered at 7:30 p.m. The title of the sermon at both services will be “Eucharist-Plain and Simple Eucharist.” At the evening service, the rite of First Communion will be given to three young persons, who are in the fifth grade.
On Good Friday, April 14, from 10 to 11 a.m., the Children’s CrossWalk will occur. This interactive worship program is for children of ages three and up. The children will follow Jesus’ journey to the cross and learn about God’s gift of love, which is found there. To assure enough craft materials, registration is required. Registration forms may be obtained at the office of Faith Lutheran.
At noon, a Community Ecumenical Service will be held at Faith Lutheran. Clergy of the New Providence and Berkeley Heights churches will lead the service.
Also, on Good Friday, a Tenebrae Service with the Stripping of the Altar will be conducted. The subject of the sermon will be “Thanks for the Promise.” The music of the service will be provided by the Sanctuary Choir and instrumentalists.
On Easter Sunday, April 16 at 7 a.m., Faith Lutheran will hold in its garden a brief service, which will include the lighting of the Paschal Candle. At 8:30 and at 11 a.m., Faith will conduct an Easter Processional and a Festival Eucharistic Liturgy. The title of the sermon at both services will be “Thanks for the Hope.” The music at the liturgies will be provided by the Sanctuary Choir, the Faith Bell Ringers, the Brass Ensemble, timpani instruments and the organ; all coordinated by Dr. John Girvin, Minister of Music.
Faith conducts an open communion table. All visitors, who are baptized members of the Christian church, are welcome to the Lord’s Table.
