The Larks, a singing group from the Summit Junior League of Summit will give a concert to the Summit Old Guard on April 12 at the New Providence Municipal Center.  The Larks were formed 20 years ago by Summit Junior League, a national service organization.  The singers are under the direction of William Houpt, an Old Guard member, and will sing a medley of Broadway show tunes.

These Junior League members are part of over 500 women from the communities of Chatham, New Providence, Berkeley Heights and Summit.  They raise money and sponsor projects in local communities.  Some recent projects include a parent education series to help women become an effective parent.  The Junior League also works with the Union County Battered Women Organization.  The Larks stages programs throughout the local area in nursing homes and senior citizen centers.

All area 50-plus active men are invited to attend meetings of the Summit Area Old Guard on Tuesday mornings at the New Providence Municipal Center at 360 Elkwood Avenue.  A coffee hour starts at 9:15 that is followed by a 10 AM short business meeting. Old Guard members participate in sports, bridge, hikes, trips, plays, concerts and cultural events. The Old Guard is planning a trip to NJPAC on April 28 to see “A Chorus Line.” Call Don Miller at 908-464-4116 for more information or log on to the website:  www.summitoldguard.homestead.com.
