WARREN, NJ – Monday, March 2, 2015 is Read Across America Day and local Brain Training Center LearningRx Warren, is hoping to raise awareness about the importance of reading by collecting new or gently used books for a local charity. LearningRx would also like to raise public awareness about the reality that even lifelong reading struggles need not be permanent – they can be overcome.

Read Across America is a celebration of beloved children’s book author Theodor Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss). Dr. Seuss epitomizes a love of reading and learning, most especially for children.  The signature use of rhyme in his books has captured the public’s hearts and minds for decades and has inspired a love of reading in even the very youngest of readers.

Commemorating Dr. Seuss’ birthday and celebrating Read Across America is one of many ways that LearningRx Warren hopes to raise awareness about the importance of reading and to provide hope and help for those struggling as a result of dyslexia or other learning challenges. There are many benefits of reading with and to our children and LearningRx Warren encourages parents to make time to do just that. In the words of Dr. Seuss, "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child."

From March 2 through March 9, anyone who stops into the Center to donate to the book drive will receive a free gift. Donors will also be eligible for a discounted Brain Skills assessment. The assessment measures brain skills like processing speed, attention, logic and reasoning, visual and auditory processing and memory. The results can help clients understand how their brain is functioning and where skills can be refined and strengthened for faster, easier reading and learning, stronger memory and better attention.

According to Marcia Douglas, Executive Director and Owner of LearningRx Warren, “Reading is a crucial skill for school and life. The good news is that there is now a scientific way to train reading so that even struggling readers can become good readers.”  Douglas went on to explain, “An estimated 88 percent of struggling readers are deficient in auditory processing and phonemic awareness - - the brain’s ability to separate, segment, target and analyze sound.  Our brain training programs strengthen these skills and actually change the brain to help it process information faster and more efficiently.” By treating the cause of difficulties with reading, a person is able to have lifelong gains.
