Led by James Snyder and Quinn Haddad, Gov. Livingston Wrestling Finishes 2nd in District XIV

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - James Snyder and Quinn Haddad each took 1st place to pace the Governor Livingston Highlanders to a second-place team finish in NJSIAA District XIV.

Snyder, now 34-4, topped Hunter Kiraly of Woodbridge (25-9) 9 to 3 in the 152 pound final, while Haddad, now 38-0, overwhelmed Dom Zecchino (25-6) with an 18-2 Technical Fall in the 170 pound final.

Both wrestlers will advance to the Region IV Tournament where they will be joined by teammates David Vill (120 lbs) now 36-6 on the season, and Greg Freidenberg (138 lbs).  Vill who “teched” Patrick Kalnins (15-13) of Cranford, 18-2 in his semi-final bout, advances as a 2nd place finisher as does Freidenberg.  Freidenberg, now 18-20, advanced to the final with a 7-4 victory of Nico Vargas of JP Stevens (23-13).

The Highlander team scoring was strongly contributed to by 4 GL 4th place finishers.  Harrison Kelly (113 lbs), CJ Savino (132 lbs), Joe Scalora (160 lbs) and Heavyweight Damon Ippolito.  Kelly and Scalora just missed advancing as they dropped tight bouts in their semi-final matches.  Kelly lost 5-3 to Ken Beck of Middlesex in his semi-final and Scalora was edged 6-5 by Jerry Arroyo of Bayonne.

Region Wrestling, which takes place at Union High School for Region IV will begin on Wednesday for Vill and Freidenberg while Snyder and Haddad will each receive byes and begin wrestling Friday night.
