Dr. Anne Matlack, organist/choir director at Grace Church, Madison, and Assistant Organist Eric Stroud, will once again offer lunchtime organ meditations throughout Lent, beginning February 24, and running through March 30.  The recitals begin at 12:15 following brief (5 minute) noonday prayer, and end at 12:45.  Drinks and dessert are provided after each performance. Local gourmet sandwich shop, Madison’s On A Roll, will provide a selection of wraps and sandwiches for $6 purchase after each concert. The concerts are free and open to the public.  The organ console and pedals will be projected onto the wall for better audience viewing.

The series opens Feb. 24 with Stroud performing Bach and works inspired by English Hymn-tunes. On March 2, Dr. Matlack will play Bach and Lenten hymn-based works. March 9, guest organist Mark Trautman will perform Bach and Mendelssohn’s Sonata I.  March 16, in honor of St. Patricks’ day, Matlack will present Celtic music with a bit of Bach. On March 23, Matlack and mezzo-soprano Patricia Ruggles join in their annual Helen E.J.Thomas memorial concert.  Thomas (1917-2006) was Grace Church’s organist for 50 years,  designed the Cutler Memorial Organ, and began the Lenten recital series.

As well as her celebrating her 20th year as organist/choir director at Grace Church, Dr. Matlack is Artistic Director of the acclaimed Harmonium Choral Society. She studied organ with Charles Krigbaum and David Mulbury and has performed with the Yale Symphony, Connecticut Chamber Orchestra, and Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey.  Eric Stroud, assistant organist, is in his 9th year at Grace Church, and a talented improviser as well as recitalist, currently studying with Brian Harlow.  Mark Trautman is Director of Music at St. Paul’s Church in Englewood, NJ, and serves on the organ faculty of the Mason Gross School of the Arts of Rutgers University. As organist, he has played in the United States, England and Germany.
