Dear Editor:
Recently, there was a campaign mailer included a quote from me in reference to my support for the upcoming elections. This mailer should not have referenced my affiliation with the Berkeley Heights Board of Education. It is with the deepest regret I apologize to the community and my fellow Board members that this occurred in honest oversight. It is important to understand that when I’m supporting candidates for any office, I’m doing so solely as a Berkeley Heights resident and not as member of the BOE.
I fully understand that the BOE is an elected, local governing body serving the children of Berkeley Heights. By law they are a non-partisan organization and therefore, they don’t support any political party. There was no intention on anyone’s part of implying that my endorsement was reflective of the Boards’ views nor any other BOE members.
Sincerely Yours,
Denis Smalley
