BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Mayor's Round Table is a monthly show hosted by Dr. Donald DeFabio, who sits with Mayor Robert Woodruff to talk about current issues that affect the township as well as answer questions submitted by citizens. 

Included in this episode, Mayor Woodruff provides an update on Redevelopment and the Budget, Fields, Hometown Heroes (deadline Monday, April 10). 

  • Budget introduced on March 21 with two prior meetings to introduce operating expenses and capital. Public hearing will be on April 18, 2017. 
    • Average increase of $25.70 which equates to 0.79 percent increase on an average assessed household value of $310,000 
    • Looking to possibly double the amount of roads to be paved.
  • Fields -- placing a field component to our fees to be allocated to move forward with fixing fields. Recreation Commission will have a long-term capital plan. Most fields are BOE fields. Trying to work together to get the fields done.

  • Veterans Memorial Park received Good Neighbor Awawrd by Suburban Chamber of Commerce
  • Hometown Heroes 
    • Key component was to educate the community about the importance of remembering our veterans and those currently serving
    • Hometown Heroes is a continuation of Operation: We Remember by inviting those who are residents of Berkeley Heights who have served in the military, veterans - living or deceased, or those currently serving, and those who call VFW Post 6259 home in the area, as well as any other military person who has lived in Berkeley Heights or worked here.

    • Funding for the project was donated through the generosity of an individual who wanted to honor his own father. 
    • Banners will line Springfield Avenue and round the corner onto Plainfield  Avenue to the Veterans Memorial Park.
  • YMCA - lease agreement, planning and zoning board, concerns with traffic.
  • Salt Dome anticipated to be built in the fall. Goal is to get RFQ's and RFP's out there. More than likely hire a project manager and have the project manager work in conjunction with the architect and Town Planner Michael Mistretta.
  • $28 million redevelopment bond. You borrow on that bond when you need it for redevelopment.
    • The acquisition of the Little Flower property could give us a $10 to $12 million dollar reduction.
    • A component of all redevelopment is to enter into a PILOT program. Substantial money for the most part goes to the town.
