BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Pearly Whites welcomes Dr. Shahid R. Aziz to join our practice, bringing extraordinary education, skill and experience to our group. Dr. Aziz received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University, his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Harvard University of Dental Medicine, and his Medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He did an Internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY, and his residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center where he also served as chief resident.
Dr. Aziz serves on staff as a professor/surgeon at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine / The University Hospital specializing in complex surgical procedures including cleft lip/palate surgery, dental implantology, facial trauma and reconstruction, and orthognathic surgery. Dr. Aziz has published almost 50 articles in regarded Medical/Dental Journals, contributed information to many textbook publications, and presented at hundreds of lectures statewide. His affiliation has earned him the AAOMS Faculty Educator Award in 2006.
Aside from his many professional successes, Dr. Aziz is most proud of the humanitarian work, giving back to his local/global community. He is a dedicated Charity Care provider at the University Hospital since 2002, ensuring that all of his patients are receiving quality and state of the art care.
His time spent abroad is where his passion is, serving team leader for Cleft Missions to Ecuador and Bangladesh. In 2006 he co-founded, and serves as President, to the humanitarian group Smile Bangladesh. Smile Bangladesh is a NJ based 501c3 organization that has provided free cleft palate surgeries to more than 1000 children over the last decade. He spends 6-weeks per year providing services to these children who would otherwise be overlooked. He received the Bangladeshi Medical Association of North America Humanitarian Award in 2010.
