Memorial Park in Berkeley Heights Gets New Playground

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - A brand new playground is being installed at Memorial Park in time for the start of the 2017 Summer Concerts in the Park that kick off on Wednesday, July 19.

The Recreation Commission received a matching grant from the Union County Kids Recreation Trust Grant through the Union County Open Space Trust Fund. The Open Space Trust fund has provided more than $17 million in matching grants since its inception in 2000 to build new or improve playgrounds, plant trees, pocket parks, recreational areas, playing fields, pools, picnic areas and much more. 

The playground equipment is currently being assembled and a ribbon cutting will be scheduled upon completion and installation of fence.

This is a Biba Playground which is the mobile playground app that keeps kids active, parents engaged and playground owners informed with fun games that capture actionable data, according to the Biba website. Biba is a free-to-play suite of mobile games specifically designed to get kids who are sitting in front of screens active in the real world on local playgrounds. The Biba games are free to play, family friendly and available for download on both Apple and Android devices.

The Summer Concert Series is presented by The Special Events Committee and Berkeley Heights Recreation Commission -- sponsored by Suburban Chamber of Commerce, Berkeley Heights Rotary Club, Berkeley Aquatic Club, Smith Chiropractic Foundation and other local businesses.

Concerts are scheduled for the following Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

  • July 19 -- Nashville Now
  • July 26 -- Beginnings (Chicago Tribute) with horn section.
  • Aug. 2 -- 52nd Street Band (Billy Joel tribute band)
  • Aug. 9 -- Beatlemania Again (two acts with full original costumes, sing along to all favorites.)

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the concert series at Memorial Park located at the corner of Park and Plainfield avenues.
