Michael J. Wood Sr., a long-time resident of Berkeley Heights and member of the Berkeley Heights Fire Department and Mt. Carmel Society,  passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2015 at the age of 82.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, September 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, October 1 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Little Flower, Plainfield Avenue, Berkeley Heights. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Cemetery. 

Born in Plainfield, Michael served with the United States Army National Guard 50th Reconnaissance Battalion of Plainfield, NJ. and was honorably discharged in 1954 as a Corporal. Michael was a long-time employee of Plainfield, Columbia and Somerville Lumber until his retirement and was a member of the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Fire Department for 13 years, the Mt. Carmel Hall Society in Berkeley Heights, North Plainfield Italian/American Club and former Co-Owner of the King George Racquetball and Health Club in Green Brook. Michael was an avid Golfer achieving 6 holes-in-one.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia “Jean” Wood (nee Pasquarello). His son Glenn Wood (Lisa) of Berkeley Heights, his daughter, Kim Gallitelli (Ed) of Berkeley Heights and his son Michael. His much loved grandchildren: Jennifer, Christina, Tiffany, Jeremy and Joseph Wood and Matthew and Andrew Gallitelli; and siblings: Frank Wood (Mary) and Betty Valente (Tom). Michael was predeceased by his parents Salvatore and Lisa Wood and his brother Salvatore Wood.
