HARDING, NJ —  Monk's Home Improvements will award five local students $2,000 scholarships based on their community service efforts.

The award and scholarship fund was designed last year by Ty Monk, the company's owner, to reward local college-bound individuals who are committed to making their communities a better place through volunteer and service work.

"The Monk’s Service Scholarship was started with the intention of giving back to the communities that we live and work in. Young people who have made an effort to get involved and donate their time and energy to causes they believe in are certainly deserving of our support. By awarding these scholarships, we hope these service-minded kids will continue to make the choice to serve their community," said Monk.

Anyone residing in the company's service area and planning to attend college in 2015-2016 (first year or otherwise) are eligible to apply.  Students need to meet some simple criteria as well as write an essay about their community service and why they are deserving of the scholarship award.

Applications are being accepted through April 20. Recipients will be announced April 30.

“We were all inspired by last year’s winners. I look forward to meeting this year’s winners and learning more about the great work they’ve been doing."

An awards ceremony for the recipients and their families will be held on Wednesday, May  6, at 4 p.m. at their offices at Mt. Kemble.

"It’s a great event where we can meet the winners and their families and hear more about their volunteer experience," said Monk.
