Grace Community Music presents Monteverdi and More, Saturday Feb. 9 at 7:30. Music Director Dr. Anne Matlack, in a rare singing appearance joins forces with a fabulous young soprano, Elise Figa of Madison. Elise performs with her husband Carlos Cuestas, on classical guitar, lute and baroque guitar. Harmonium Choral Society soloist Marilyn Kitchell, soprano also appears. The concert features vocal duets and trios by Claudio Monteverdi accompanied by guitar or organ, lute songs by Dowland, and an unusual solo work by Barbara Strozzi.

Praised as being "the most direct and intimate in her interpretations" (The Boston Musical Intelligencer), Elise Figa is quickly gaining recognition in the early music and chamber music fields.  Her flexible vocal abilities allow her to perform a wide variety of styles.  She frequently performs as a soloist in New York City and New Jersey, and has performed throughout the United States with such groups as Magnificat Baroque Orchestra in San Francisco and ¡Sacabuche! at the Bloomington, Boston and Indianapolis Early Music Festivals.  In 2009, she made her European debut in Germany at the Festival Europäische Kirchenmusik singing music of the Medieval time period.  In 2011, Ms. Figa performed on stage at Carnegie Hall in the Carnegie Hall Festival Chorus and she will be recording a commissioned duet for two sopranos and organ in Sweden, August 2013.

Admission is by freewill donation at the door. The concert will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.
