NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Please join the New Providence Diversity Committee and the Berkeley Heights Diversity Council on Monday, January 15 at 2 p.m. at Glenside Nursing Home located at 144 Gales Dr. in New Providence.  School aged children with parents can play Bingo and spend time with the elder residents of their community in honor of Dr. King.  For younger children, a coloring table will be provided to draw and color pictures of the Freedom Bell and other MLK Jr. related pictures. Also seeking volunteers, preferably two to three middle schoolers to read excerpts of the "I have a dream" speech.

Later, please join the New Providence Diversity Committee, the Berkeley Heights Diversity Council, and the New Providence Presbyterian Church for a MLK Celebration Jam on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Annex in New Providence (1312 Springfield Avenue – right next to the Prestige Diner).

This will be a cool coffeehouse-like event geared toward middle school aged kids up to adults – doors will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. This event will focus of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

• Spoken word open mic – pick a poem, read an excerpt from a book or speech having to do with civil rights, peace, Race Reconciliation, etc. please submit the piece to bhdiversity@gmail.com or bring it that evening.

• Bring an instrument – there will be a music jam session. Let us know what song(s) you’d like to do so that we can print the words out so that everyone can join in (bhdiversity@gmail.com).

• The NPPC will briefly talk about their mission trip to Mississippi this summer that will focus on race reconciliation.

• There will be a viewing of the DVD Martin Luther King, Jr. – I Have  A Dream
