SUMMIT, NJ - Attorney and advocate Jill LaZare has filed to run for State Senate in New Jersey’s 21st District, joining Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Johnson’s ticket for the primary election on June 6th, 2017. By aligning with Johnson, LaZare has reaffirmed herself as the independent voice for New Jersey working families who have suffered under the misguided leadership of Chris Christie and New Jersey State Republicans.

“I am honored to join with an independent leader of Jim Johnson’s stature. As a former federal prosecutor and Undersecretary of the Treasury, Jim is the most qualified candidate to navigate New Jersey forward after years of Trenton mismanagement and corruption,” said LaZare. “With Republicans in lock-step with the rising hostilities arising from the Trump White House, the time for independent and strong voices for working families is needed in order to rebuild our economy, protect our citizens and combat the growing threats of gun violence and opioid addiction. This partnership with the Johnson campaign has one goal: to place New Jersey families first.”

As we have disturbingly seen in the early days of the Trump administration and throughout the years of Republican control, New Jersey’s hard-working families are under constant seize from policies that benefit the wealthy at the expense of the working men and women who make our state great.

“It is only with independent leadership that New Jersey change course,” said LaZare. “Together with Jim Johnson, we are going to run a campaign based on the progressive values of fairness and compassion. We are going to sweep out the hatred, division and special interest dominance that hampers our state, and in the process restore democracy and integrity to state government.”

On Friday, Jim Johnson announced that he submitted close to 13,000 petition signatures to qualify for the Democratic Primary ballot for governor.

“Jill LaZare is the type of leader New Jersey needs - caring and independent. She understands that our state is stronger when our democracy is stronger,” said Johnson. “Jill and I share the same commitment to putting New Jerseyans first instead of the special interests that have overrun this state. I look forward to working with Jill over the next few months to achieve victory in June, and again in November, and to building a New Jersey that puts the needs of the people first.”
