NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - No summonses have been issued yet in the three-car accident that took place on Maple Street yesterday, March 30, according to New Providence Police Lt. Theresa Gazaway.
Responding to questions left on voice mail yesterday, she gave the following account of the accident:
A driver heading up Maple Street towards Mountain Avenue, sideswiped two occupied, legally parked cars just south of Brookside Drive, then overturned. The drivers of the parked cars were waiting to pick up students at Salt Brook School.
Three people were taken to Morristown Memorial Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Two of those people, a driver and a passenger, were in the overturned vehicle. The third person was the person sitting in the driver's seat of one of the parked cars.
According to witnesses, people waiting for their children quickly left their cars and provided assistance to the people who had been injured, including those in the overturned vehicle, until police and emergency medical personnel arrived.
The crash is still being investigated, Gazaway said. When more information becomes available, the story will be updated.
