Parent Wellness Series Begins with 'Hidden in Plain Sight' Oct. 25

SUMMIT, NJ - For the third consecutive year, a consortium consisting of the Superintendents and Student Assistance Counselors (SAC) of the Berkeley Heights, Chatham, Millburn, New Providence and Summit School Districts will offer a series of programs to area families focusing on student needs.

The 'Parent Wellness Series' will again see each district host an 'awareness forum' at their respective high school, inviting members of each of the participating communities to attend.

The first 2017-18 event, entitled 'Hidden in Plain Sight' will be held at Summit High School October 25, beginnng 6:30 p.m. Funded by Summit Oaks Hospital in a partnership with the Summit Police Department and the Morris County Prevention is Key organization, the event will highlight how detecting risky behavior in teenagers may be more difficult than parents think.  In fact, some of these red flags are visible in a child’s room but not immediately noticeable.

'Hidden in Plain Sight' offers parents an opportunity to walk through a simulated bedroom and learn about the hazards that are often just that -- in plain sight.

A prevention specialist, along with a member of Summit law enforcement, will guide attendees through the exhibit and explain substance abuse trends, signs, symptoms and culture in an effort to raise awareness about drugs and alcohol and provide resources for parents and community members to help keep youth healthy and drug-free.
