NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Phil Sapienza, of Berkeley Heights, celebrated his 101st birthday at the local McDonald's on Springfield Avenue. For this active centenarian, this is a regular outing. Not only does Phil have a sharp mind and good looks, he continues to be very active going out four nights a week --- and drives himself to each engagement.

As a corporal in the U.S. Army, he served three years in Europe during WWII and landed on Normandy. He was a barber in the Army and later became a hairdresser. He has met many friends through the Warren American Legion, Stirling Elks and the Berkeley Heights VFW, as well as enjoys his Friday nights at Mount Carmel Society.

Phil has been a regular at McDonald's for over 10 years and meets his special group of "McD's friends" for coffee every morning. So, it was no surprise that they were there for Phil with the mylar balloon and cake to celebrate his big day.

What's Hot and What's Not

Summer is a great time to take a step back, sip a cool beverage, and take a look at what’s going on in the world of college admissions.  Departments use the summer to evaluate how their year went and plan on any changes they want to make for the fall.  Did they over-enroll? Under-enroll?  What application materials were useful to them?  Which were redundant or time ...

Summertime Air Quality Issues

Summer weather can be harmful to your health due to air pollutants like ozone, mold, and moisture that are more prevalent both inside and outside than they are during cooler months.

Sunny days, warm temperatures, and light winds don’t allow pollutants to be cleared from outside air. Instead, they encourage the formation of ozone, a leading air pollutant.  Ozone is ...
