BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — Moms, dads, children of all ages, and even a few canines took part in the second annual Color Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 5. White T-shirts seemed to be the most popular attire, and more than one runner donned a tutu.
The Berkeley Heights Education Foundation hosted the run at Columbia Park under a bright blue sky. The Kiddie Color Dash, for the younger set, drew an enthusiastic crowd of children. The Family Color Run followed, with participants running around the field twice. By the time the runners finished their second lap, they were blue, pink and yellow thanks to the volunteers (and friends and family) who tossed the powered colors over them. The white T-shirts helped them show off their colors.
The event has already become a favorite of residents, and the crowd was substantial. When runners finished they could join the DJ Dance party and dance, while more colors filled the air and decorated the participants.
Dinny's Dinners Food Truck of Clark sold hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries and spiral potatoes. The ice cream truck did a land-office business.
Atlantic Health and Long Hill Montessori were VIP sponsors of the event. Other sponsors included Yoga Essence which held a yoga warm-up session; Berkeley Heights Youth Soccer Club led soccer activities and Pure Movement and others groups, including the Environmental Commission had tables at the event.
Youngsters lined up to have their faces painted or to add a temporary tattoo. The Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department showed off their latest acquisition, “The Gator,” an ATV rescue vehicle. Creature Comfort Dog Therapy brought their equipment and dogs for folks to visit.
