PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Plainfield Public Library has announced its latest Local History Department exhibit that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into World War I.

The Library is displaying a variety of materials from its historical collections of photographs, documents, ephemera, and newspaper advertisements.  Photographs include images of Plainfield’s Home Defense League and volunteer nurses, as well as Plainfield soldiers in Troop D, Company K, and the famous all-Black regiment, the Harlem Hellfighters.

Four featured items come from the Library’s collection of original World War I publicity posters.  These stunning lithographs are temporarily housed in archival-quality frames that protect them from deterioration while on display. Funding for the special framing was provided by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.

The displays are located on the main reading room wall and in two display cases, near the Reference Desk, on the main level of the Library. The exhibit will run through June 2017 and is free to the public.

The Plainfield Public Library is located at 800 Park Avenue.  For hours of operation, call 908-757-1111 or check the website at
