BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – The Planning Board will hear applications on a cutting-edge plan to build a scale model city, on a raised platform, at Nokia, and another to redevelop the movie theatre site during a special meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 1.
Nokia of America Corporation, has applied to receive preliminary and final site plan approval for an outdoor digital concept display, at 600 Mountain Ave. The display, which would be built adjacent to the existing office building and courtyard, will consist of a raised, 25,6000-square-foot platform, upon which structures will be placed to create a scale model city to support Nokia’s research and development on the Digital Campus.
Lockhern Property Urban Property Urban Renewal, L.L.C. has applied for preliminary and final site plan approval to redevelop the movie theater site as a four-story, mixed use building with 20 rental apartment units, a parking garage and 4,000-square-feet of retail space on the lower level. Three of the 20 rental units will be affordable housing apartments. The development will be called “The Terrace at Berkeley Heights.”
The board will also memorialize the resolution the board approved for Woodcrest at Berkeley Heights, a 196-unit senior-living residential building to be built at 100 Locust Ave.
The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Town Hall, 29 Park Ave., in the council chambers. Members of the public are invited to attend or to watch the meeting on LiveStream.
