To the editor,

As Colleges/Universities are beginning classes, parents are buying items for their children, furnishing dorm rooms or apartments.  Some of these purchases are wrapped in styrofoam for protection. Just a reminder that in Berkeley Heights we can recycle our styrofoam with our single stream recycling.

The Sustainability Committee on Recycling, a sub-committee of the Environmental Commission spoke to the new manager of Giordano's to confirm this practice. Not only can we recycle packing styrofoam, we can also recycle clean coffee cups and food containers, and egg cartons.  These items can be mixed in with the glass and aluminum.  If you put it into a separate bag, the bag must be clear so the haulers will see that it isn't trash.

The Township is currently working on recycling small electronics.
