Faith Lutheran Church in New Providence will be collecting second-hand bikes from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, on behalf of Pedals For Progress. These bikes will be used by adults and children in third world countries. Anyone with a bicycle in repairable condition is urged to donate to this worthy cause.
Bikes may be dropped off at the parking lot next to the church at 524 South Street in New Providence.
During the past 28 years, Pedals For Progress has collected 170,000 bicycles and shipped this material wealth to persons in need of the developing countries of Latin America, Africa and the Pacific Islands. In these countries, the bikes are reconditioned by partner agencies and distributed at low cost to poor working adults. The bikes provide the adults with reliable transportation for commuting to work, transporting produce to market and accessing healthcare and other services. Steady employment for the adults is vital to the development and success of these economies.
Members of Faith will do repairs and prepare the bikes for shipment. The web site of Faith is www.famfaith.org. The phone number is 908-464-5177. Since 2002, Faith Lutheran has been collecting bikes for Pedals For Progress.
Casey Walsh, a member of Faith, leads this ministry.
