SHORT HILLS, NJ — The afternoon calm along Route 124 in Short Hills was broken when police responded to a report of a vehicle on fire Thursday. Police investigating found that a robbery suspect in a 2006 Mercedes Benz fled the mall parking lot after the driver, Marquis Dixon stole a $500.00 necklace from an individual he met through an app, police said.

As Dixon fled the car he was driving hit another vehicle on Route 124 and careened into a tree where it caught fire, according to polie. While attempting to flee the scene, Dixon got into a physical altercation alongside the roadway with the victim of the original necklace theft.

A short time later, the Millburn Police Department located and arrested Dixon for robbery, assault by auto and several motor vehicle offenses, police said.
