SUMMIT, NJ - Joseph Steiner, president of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce, has been selected to receive The Rotary Club of Summit and New Providence's first annual "Rotarian of The Year" Award. The award recognizes exemplary contributions, through largely volunteer efforts, to the community's common good by a local resident in the areas of civics, philanthropy, education, or other sectors.
Steiner will receive the honor Jan. 15, as part a special cocktail reception and award ceremony held at The Grand Summit Hotel from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The evening event is open to the public.
The Rotary selected Steiner, in part, because of his many contributions over the past four decades, which include: his service to the Chamber of Commerce; his abundant civic and humanitarian efforts in both leadership and support roles; his involvement with organizations such as the Rotary, YMCA and Jaycees; and for his past and ongoing engagement in numerous local, county, and state initiatives.
"No mater what Joe has been involved in, or what he offers to do, he always goes above and beyond the call of duty to see the project or initiative through to completion," said Rotary President Jim Fleischmann. "We are proud to recognize Joe as our first honoree."
Steiner began his career in Chamber of Commerce Management in 1972 at the Plainfield - Central Jersey Chamber of Commerce as Manager of Economic Development. From there, he moved to a similar position at the Union County Chamber of Commerce in 1974.
He was named Executive Manager of the Summit Area Chamber of Commerce -- now the Suburban Chambers of Commerce -- in December of 1977, and was elevated to Executive Vice President in 1983, and President in 1991. He was named President of Summit Downtown, Inc in 1986, when the Chamber formed the Special Improvement Corporation for the City of Summit, and served through June of 2005.
Steiner began a consulting firm, Organization Resources LLC, in 2004, which provides management services to non-profit organizations in New Jersey. For more information regarding the "Rotarian of The Year" award event, visit snprotary.org
