SAGE Eldercare Taps into Online Activity and Dining to Support Programs for Local Seniors

SAGE Eldercare has partnered with San Francisco-based GoodSearch.com to enable donations to SAGE through casual online activity and dining out at local eateries.  GoodSearch.com is a fundraising platform that donates some of its profits when members search the Internet, shop online or eat at a restaurant in their GoodDining program.

SAGE Eldercare plans to raise funds through its members’ online search and shopping activity with GoodSearch and will use the money to provide support to SAGE’s fifteen services and programs which support older adults and their caregivers in allowing the elderly to age-in-place gracefully.

“Anyone can sign up with GoodSearch.com and list SAGE Eldercare (Summit – NJ) as the beneficiary of the program,” stated SAGE Eldercare Executive Director, Jessica Rosenzweig Gruber.  “This is a simple method for people to support SAGE so that we can earn additional funds for our programs and services and continue to support older adults in our region.  And because people are already searching the Internet, shopping online and going out to eat at local restaurants, they don’t need to drastically change their habits to support elderly people who benefit from SAGE’s programs.”

GoodSearch.com is a search engine powered by Yahoo.com.  When users search the Internet they earn about a penny donation for the designated cause.  GoodShop.com is an online mall with over 2,500 major online retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, JC Penney, Macy's, Target and Wal-Mart.  These companies donate a percentage of every purchase to charity and provide more than 100,000 money-saving coupons when subscribers use the online site.

GoodDining, a partnership between GoodSearch.com and Rewards Network, is the first 365-day a year dine-for-charity program.  A percentage of each dining check, including tax and tip, is donated to the member's charity when they dine out at any one of 10,000 participating restaurants, clubs and bars nationwide and pay with a program-registered credit or debit card.

Some of the local restaurants that support GoodDining rewards include: Sofia’s in Springfield; IHOP, Suspenders and Café Z in Union; Resto and Rocco’s in Madison; and Sona Indian and Highland Place in Maplewood.  There are many other establishments in the region that diners can get credit for their charity of choice.  Once you have registered a specific credit card with GoodDining, you do not need to present anything else to give back to SAGE Eldercare.  Just use your registered credit card(s) at participating restaurants and bars across the country and SAGE will receive a donation from GoodDining!

More than 100,000 nonprofits and schools have partnered with GoodSearch.com and have earned more than $8 million for charitable causes through searching the Internet and shopping online.  The company is revolutionizing online philanthropy so that no one is denied the opportunity to support the causes most important to them.

"We have taken simple everyday actions, like searching and shopping, and turned them into ways people can do good with just the click of a mouse," says Scott Garell, CEO of GoodSearch and former president of Ask.com.  "It's a tough economy and everyone is thinking, 'How can I give back?'  GoodSearch provides an easy and meaningful way to fund causes most important to them."

SAGE Eldercare supports the independence, well-being and quality of life of older adults, their families and caregivers, through the provision of client-centered health, social and support services.  Founded in 1954, SAGE is both the oldest and one of the few non-profit eldercare agencies in the United States that offers a broad and comprehensive array of services under one roof that assist elderly, often frail, adults to remain independent in their own homes.  SAGE Eldercare programs include: HomeCare; Meals on Wheels; Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center; GPS (Guidance Planning Support) Services; InfoCare free information and referral service; Fall Prevention Initiative; Home Repair Service; Grocery Shopping and Errand Service; Bill Paying Service; Alzheimer’s and PREP caregiver support groups; and SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program).  SAGE Eldercare serves over 6,000 older people and their families annually in Union, Essex, Morris and Somerset counties.  For more information, call 908.273.5550 or visit www.sageeldercare.org.

Logic and Sensible Spending Take Priority

Logic.  It's what people use when endeavoring to complete things in the most sensible order.  Everyone knows that "logic" means sequencing events in a formulaic, predictable manner.  We learned this at a young age, as we observed Star Trek on TV and came to understand why Captain James T. Kirk relied on Spock as his first officer because his strategic plans were ...

The Evaluation of the College Search

It’s is a bizarre time of year as a college counselor as I find myself at both the beginning and end of this process.  Sophomores and juniors are excitedly and idealistically starting to consider what will be important to them in a school.  At the same time, while only separated by a year or two, my seniors have all committed within the past month to a school and have spent the ...

Don’t Make These Three Mistakes About Social Security

Social Security has been around for decades and it’s not about to disappear. Why? Social Security is not an entitlement ("gift") that can be taken away - it’s a forced savings scheme that Americans pay into in their working years in order to secure a pension for life. Ideally, Social Security should not be your sole source of income in retirement but even comfortable ...
