BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - A Klondike Derby, a Robotics competition, a comedy fundraiser for a rare but painful disease (fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva), a visit to the historic Steamtown and a backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail. Sound like a lot. The Boys Scouts of Troop 368 have packed all of this under their belt in the first four months of this year.
In April, a group of senior Scouts backpacked for seven miles across the Appalachian Trail, rain and shine. The Scouts camped at Worthington, near the Delaware Water Gap, with the younger patrol staying back at basecamp. The Backpackers had Philmont food and drank water filtered from the lake.
Twenty-five of these senior Scouts who are 14 or over this summer will be embarking on their High Adventure trip in the Grand Canyon in the summer of 2016. They will be white water rafting in the Colorado River and hiking through the gorgeous Canyon. They are preparing in advance for their High Adventure trip through team building on backpacking and white water rafting trips.
On the weekend of April 30, they will setting up a garage sale to support their High Adventure trip. Come support these young boys, the Garage Sale will be held at 191 Lorraine Drive in Berkeley Heights between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 30 (Rain date: May 1).
