SUMMIT, NJ - The St. John's Summit Concert Series (SJSCS) has announced the lineup of performances for the 2016-17 season, the third for the concert series, which will include four shows beginning in October, 2016.

Series organizers will continue SJSCS’ tradition of bringing award-winning musicians to a community-based venue, designed to give patrons an opportunity to experience the music in a way that would otherwise not be possible. The season’s performers include:

  • The Zukerman Trio – The Zukerman Trio features Pinchas Zukerman -- a virtuoso on the violin and viola and considered by many to be among the greatest in history – as well as cellist Amanda Forsyth and pianist Angela Cheng. Zukerman has been nominated for 21 Grammy Awards as a solo artist, winning twice, and is artist in residence with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Officially formed as a trio in 2013, the group has delighted sold-out crowds with its music in some of the great music halls around the world.
  • Wei Luo – At only 17 years old, pianist Wei Luo is already making the musical world take notice. With a pedigree similar to past SJSCS performer, Haochen Zhang, she has already won several international piano competitions for young pianists, performed with the Shanghai Philharmonic and studies at the Curtis School in Philadelphia. Luo comes to Summit on November 5.
  • The West Point Glee Club - For more than one hundred years, the members of the West Point Glee Club have been performing around the world and representing the U.S. Army at official events. Their motto is: “No fun without music, no music without fun!” They will perform in Summit on February 12.
  • Emmet Cohen Trio – On Saturday, June 3, the SJSCS will welcome back local jazz piano phenom, Emmet Cohen, who wowed Summit in January during An Evening of Dinner and Jazz. This year, Emmet welcomes special guest jazz trumpeter and vocalist, Benny Benack III, for “A Swingin’ Affair: Sinatra through the Lens of Jazz.”

"With this third season, we are hitting our stride as a concert series,” noted Kenneth Bryson, SJSCS president. “We have paid attention to the feedback we’ve been receiving for the last two years and have come up with a lineup that delivers on all of the things that we know people have loved so far.”

During the new season, the SJSCS will continue to offer receptions following the performances where patrons can stay and join the performers for drinks and hors d’oeuvres. The receptions were introduced in the group’s first season, and have since become a mainstay and a highlight.

Ticket prices for each of the shows will vary. Visit stjohnssummit.org/concertseries for prices.

The St. John’s Summit Concert Series (SJSCS) is a non-profit organization that aims to bring a diverse array of music to the local communities surrounding Summit. The performances will both highlight the talent found in the community and offer residents the opportunity to see and hear local and international professional musicians.

The SJSCS has filed for 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, and supports itself through the generosity of its Friends of Music and through the sale of tickets to attend performances.

St. John's Lutheran Church is located at 587 Springfield Avenue.

The Evaluation of the College Search

It’s is a bizarre time of year as a college counselor as I find myself at both the beginning and end of this process.  Sophomores and juniors are excitedly and idealistically starting to consider what will be important to them in a school.  At the same time, while only separated by a year or two, my seniors have all committed within the past month to a school and have spent the ...

Ideally, Social Security should not be your sole source of income in retirement but even comfortable ...
