Dr. Janice Dowd a former world language supervisor in the Teaneck Public Schools will discuss the ramifications of providing a sound second language background for all persons especially beginning the process in early grammar school at the Sept. 6 meeting of the Summit Old Guard at the New Providence Municipal Center.

Dr. Dowd has been a spokesperson for K-12 World Language Instruction for many years and most recently has been a strong advocate of Chinese language instruction in Elementary, Middle and High Schools.

All area 50-plus active men are invited to attend meetings of the Summit Area Old Guard on Tuesday mornings at the New Providence Municipal Center at 360 Elkwood Avenue. A coffee hour starts at 9:15 a.m. and is followed at 10:00 with a short business meeting. Old Guard members participate in sports, bridge, hikes, trips, plays, concerts and cultural events.
