MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to announce that the Trailside Nature and Science Center in Mountainside will offer a photography workshop on Saturday, November 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for adults ages 18 and older.  The fee for this program is $45 for Union County residents and $55 for out-of-county participants. Pre-registration is required, but walk-ins are welcome if space permits.

“The Watchung Reservation surrounding the Trailside Nature and Science Center provides plenty of inspiration to photography enthusiasts,” said Freeholder Chairman Christopher Hudak. “This is a perfect workshop to help you capture the beauty of the season.”

This photography workshop is ideal for students who hope to familiarize themselves with their single lens reflex digital camera or sophisticated “point and shoot” camera with fully manual settings. The objective of the class is to make basic camera functions familiar to the user.

Professional photographer Joan Pamboukes will bring clarity to such topics as focal length, aperture, shutter speeds and white balance. Composition and basic lighting strategies will also be addressed. Please bring your camera system (with a fully charged battery), the manual and a tripod, if possible. Much of the class time will be spent shooting pictures and discussing available light and ways to add light in order to get the right exposure.

Joan Pamboukes has experience as an art and photography instructor in Boston, New York and New Jersey. She currently teaches Photography and Digital Media at The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit. With her knowledge and skill as a teacher and professional photographer, Joan guides students to gain the confidence they need to truly enjoy their camera and the art of digital photography.

Weather permitting, participants will walk around the grounds of the Trailside Center and create images together. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be held indoors utilizing Trailside’s state-of-the-art exhibits and wildlife viewing area.
