BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - A monument of the "Fallen Soldier" was delivered and installed at Veterans Memorial Park in Berkeley Heights on Friday.
The bronze statue was generously donated by the late Vito Mondelli who died on December 29, 2015. Mondelli was a member of the Berkeley Heights Memorial Park Renewal Committee and a former Marine who served in the Korean War.
The monument features an inscribed plaque that reads - "Dedicated to the men and women who gave their lives for freedom, Donated by Vito Mondelli, Jr. USMC."
Steve Siara, of Siara Construction and his team, installed the pedestal stone which weighs over 1,000 pounds upon which the statue rests.
Committee Chairman Ted Romankow has been working tirelessly to reach the goal of having the park restored to "its pristine condition by Memorial Day, May 30, 2016 through fundraising and county-matching funds."
