This is in response to the letter submitted by Mr. Hanson. When the League of Women Voters organized the public forum to educate the public as to the issues surrounding the May 7th Special Election, it was decided by the Executive Board, as per League rules for forums, that all legitimate sides be represented. To keep the equity of the program, the NO speakers would have to split their time, while Mr. Wood had the full time to make his presentation, respond to questions and state his closing remarks. Mr. Wood knew the format and agreed to it. Had he not, there couldn't be a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters. After the forum, I heard several people say that they weren't sure of how they would vote but they are now voting YES. I passed along this information to Mr. Wood, when I sent him a thank you for participating.
The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization whose mission is to educate the public so they can make informed decisions at the voting booth. To that end, we are very mindful of our responsibilty to be fair and balanced.
