NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -  A very cool evening awaited the folks who came out to enjoy the annual Our Lady of Peace Country Fair, which kicked off Wednesday night on South Street in New Providence.  For New Providence residents, the OLP Country Fair, along with that first iced coffee, is a promising sign that summer is close at hand.

Last night, the residents of New Providence and surrounding towns were out in full force taking advantage of a beautiful, crisp spring evening at the OLP fair. As has become customary, a steady line for a cheeseburger grilled up by the Knights of Columbus was a familiar sight, as were the many kids holding giant blue and pink cotton candy as they wandered through the maze of rides and games.

The crowd ran the gamut from young parents with baby carriages and groups of high school students to the over-21 crowd enjoying the beer garden, but all were taking advantage of what has become a long established community tradition.

As always, the OLP Fair has something for everyone; there are rides for young children and thrill seekers, great food, a raffle, lots of vendors and a Giant 50/50 with only one winner.  The Knights of Columbus will be back grilling their famous hamburgers and hot dogs. Also on the menu are gyros, pizza, BBQ-on-a-stick, funnel cake, zeppoli, Sno cones, cotton candy, sausage and peppers and much more. Back again this year is the Beer Garden that opens at 6 p.m. each night for the 21 and over crowd.

All the old favorite rides are back; The Gravitron, the Carousel, the Zipper, the Scrambler, the Super Slide, the Monkey Maze, the Tubs of Fun, the Tilt-a-Whirl and of course, the Ferris Wheel. You can also win prizes at the games of skill and chance.

The raffle (two tickets for $5) has many great items this year including a Weber grill, a 48” Samsung Flat screen TV, an Ipad, a Go Pro, a Coach basket, a Girls Night Out basket and much more. There are many vendors and a new gifts table. Inside the Gymnasium you can choose from the Mom’s Kitchen Menu that is serving up pulled pork nachos, meatball sandwiches and eggplant rollatini.

The OLP Country Fair’s dates and hours are:

Friday, May 12th 6 to 11 p.m.

Saturday, May 13th  1 to 11 p.m.
