During the second quarter, GL picked up momentum and scored 13 points while Union Catholic only scored 9. The team refused to give up and kept on fighting. By the end of the second quarter the score was 26-19 in favor of Union Catholic.

During the third quarter, both teams scored 17 points. This was an especially good quarter for GL’s Candeloro who scored 6 points. Union Catholic’s Dave Hawthorne, Dayne Horribin, and Jahaad Harris each had 4 points during this quarter. Union Catholic remained in the lead by six points once the third quarter had ended.

The Governor Livingston team gave their best effort in the last quarter by scoring 17 points including two 3 point shots by Senior Ron Jordan and Junior Jensen Butler. Union Catholic scored 15 points, but it was still enough for them to win the game 60-53.  Governor Livingston came very close tying the game in the fourth quarter but Union Catholic did not let themselves lose the lead.

Even with the loss, Governor Livingston coach Steve Petruzzelli was happy with the team’s performance.

"The game, especially in the second half, was a huge step forward for us offensively," he said. “We were able to finally get our big guys involved and ran good offense, which led to easy opportunities. In the second half we did a much better job of what was a byproduct of better execution of offense. Defensively we did a good job with our gameplan and were able to keep Damon Lynn, one of Union county’s best, under control.”
