Union Catholic Track Star to Compete in U.S. Olympic Team Trials

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Sydney McLaughlin, a rising senior at Union Catholic High School recently named 2015-16 Gatorade National Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year, will compete at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field at Hayward Field in Eugene, OR.

McLaughlin, who is from Dunellen, NJ, is a two-time Gatorade New Jersey Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year. In June, she won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor championships with a record-setting time of 54.46 seconds. She followed that performance with a third individual national 400 hurdles title in the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships.

Principal Sister Percylee Hart, RSM, tweeted, “Kudos to Sydney, her family, Coach Mike McCabe and all who support her. Our prayers continue to journey with you.”
