Plainfield, NJ (April 11, 2017) On average, there are 321,500 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States. Ages 12-34 are the highest risk years for rape and sexual assault.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The men of Omicron Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. along with our community partners (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter; Safe + Sound Somerset; The New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault; and The Union County Rape Crisis Center) hosting a  "Take Back The Night" rally to help bring awareness and support to victims and survivors of sexual violence in Union County and the greater Central New Jersey community. As an organization consisting predominantly of African American men, we feel that it is our duty to publicly take a stand against this major societal ill. This critical event is being held on Thursday, April 20th on the steps of Plainfield City Hall at 6:30 PM. We look forward to you joining us as we take a stand against sexual assault.  Together...we can make a difference!

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. was founded Nov. 17, 1911, by three Howard University students — Edgar A. Love, Oscar J. Cooper, and Frank Coleman — with the aid of their undergraduate advisor, Ernest E. Just. It is the first international fraternal organization to be founded on the campus of a historically black college. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s mission is to provide social action in the communities in which its members live through dedication to its four Cardinal Principles: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift.

For over 60 years, we have made and continue to make transformative impact in the lives of the citizens of Plainfield and the greater Central New Jersey area. Omicron Chi has dedicated members with careers ranging from business executives, education, legal, law enforcement, scientists, engineers, and a plethora of entrepreneurs and business owners. Our chapter is focused on leading our communities and families via the vision of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.’s Founders and our Cardinal Principles: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift.
