NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - A fatal accident occured early Sunday morning on Central Avenue in New Providence. At approximately 4:50 a.m., a 20-year-old male was killed on Central Avenue, approximately 125 feet east of South Street, when his car jumped the curb and hit a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has now been identified as Aidan F. Doyle (male), age 20, of East Hanover.
The vehicle was occupied by a single driver who was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue. The accident was called in by several residents in the area who heard the crash but there have been no reports of any eye witnesses.
Preliminary findings indicate that the 2008 Nissan Altima first struck a curb on the eastbound lane of Central Avenue, approximately 100 feet west of the South Street intersection. The vehicle then traveled through the intersection crossing into the westbound lane of Central Avenue.
The vehicle struck a tree, at the westbound curb line, which caused the vehicle to overturn and stay this way until final vehicle rest. The driver is believed to have died upon impact after it overturned.
The initial accident investigation was conducted by the New Providence Police Department Accident Team and the Union County Fatal Accident Unit.
