BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - On Nov. 4, the Berkeley Heights Diversity Committee and the Berkeley Heights YMCA joined together to host a Diwali Festival at the Berkeley Heights YMCA.

Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, is celebrated around the world. It celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. As part of the celebration, the YMCA gym glistened with lights from the many strings of tiny lights stung around the gym and other areas of the facility.

While most of the more than 250 attendees were from Berkeley Heights, a number of New Providence residents attended as well. On Oct. 15, New Providence residents held their own Diwali celebration at Forest Road Park in Fanwood.
