RAHWAY, NJ - Parents, children, friends, and all family members came out on Saturday afternoon to Rahway River Park for the Union County CommUNITY PRIDE Day Picnic.

The family-friendly celebration hosted by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, was a day of fun activities of arts and crafts, family lawn games, inflatable bounce houses, playground fun and more, along with music by the rock ‘n’ roll group The Fuzzy Lemons. Families brought blankets and lawn chairs and stayed all afternoon enjoying the entertainment.

A Family Equality Rally was held at 2 p.m. Attendees held signs that celebrated the strength of diversity in the Union County community. Throughout the afternoon, attendees of all ages visited an interactive display hosted by the Elizabeth Public Library, where they made wearable items out of recycled materials and signed up to walk the runway for the “Trash to Fashion” show.

Union County’s Pride Month events were organized by the Office of LGBTQ Services. Established as part of Chairman Sergio Granados’ 2018 Moving Union County Forward initiatives, the Office of LGBTQ Services, under the Division of Outreach and Advocacy in the Department of Human Services, is the first County government office of its kind in the State of New Jersey. It provides a platform for leadership and collaboration to support equality, serving as a catalyst for advocacy, awareness, and action.
