WATCHUNG, NJ - Seritage Growth Properties was back in front of the Watchung Planning Board on Tuesday seeking preliminary site plan approval for the redevelopment of the Sears property on Route 22, and assured the board that if the " Legends of Watchung" mural can be saved, the company would donate it to the Borough of Watchung.
The board voted to have the Borough's attorney prepare a resolution to vote on preliminary site plan approval at its next meeting on Tuesday, June 20.
Patrick McNamara, an attorney representing Seritage, said Seritage would be “more than happy” to donate the mural to the Borough of Watchung.
The redevelopment plan calls for the demolition of the Sears store where the 16-by-10-foot mural is affixed to a wall and the construction of 87,600 square feet of retail space in five buildings and four pad sites.
Planning Board Chairperson Tracee Schaefer said she truly appreciates all that the Seritage representative have done to work with the Borough.
