Westfield Interfaith Coalition for Refugee Family Support Presents Screening of 'After Spring'

On March 30, 2017, the Westfield Interfaith Coalition for Refugee Family Support will host a screening of the Jon Stewart-executive produced documentary, "After Spring." The Kickerstarter-funded documentary is set in the Zaatari Refugee Camp, a United Nations-sponsored Syrian refugee camp located in northern Jordan near the Syrian border. The film introduces its viewers to and follows two Syrian families that fled their war-torn country for safety, as thousands of others have done during the course of the country's civil war. The camp is the largest for Syrian refugees and presently has almost 80,000 residents; in 2013, the population swelled to over 200,000. Since the camp opened in July 2012, it has transformed into a "functioning city."

The screening of "After Spring" will be held at Temple Emanu-El, located at 756 East Broad Street in Westfield. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. While the screening is free of charge, recommended donations are $7.00 for those tickets purchased online, and $10.00 at the door. Donations will benefit the Westfield Interfaith Coalition for Refugee Family Support, which has been assisting refugee families in their quest to become self-sustaining. The Coalition recently began hosting the "Saturday Morning Fun Bunch Club," a weekly gathering for refugee families from across Africa and the Middle East, where adults can work on their English language skills and children can socialize with other refugees and volunteers. For more information regarding the Coalition's work, or to volunteer with or donate to the Fun Bunch Club, email Jenny Tananbaum ( or Alissa Berger (

The screening will begin promptly at 7 p.m. The movie is approximately 98 minutes long.
