HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. Many people, especially those with busy schedules, love HITT because they can get maximum benefits in a short period of time! According to Shape Magazine, “Research shows you can achieve more progress in a mere 15 minutes of interval training (done three times a week) than the girl jogging on the treadmill for an hour. And according to a 2011 study presented at the American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting, just 2 weeks of high-intensity intervals improves your aerobic capacity as much as 6 to 8 weeks of endurance training.” Moreover, some believe that the after burn of a HIIT work out lasts up to 24 hours!

Summit YMCA Instructor Alyssa Reyes comments on the benefits of her Cardio HITT class on Thursday night, “I love this class because you get the most bang for your buck in 30 minutes. You get your cardio with your strength training. It helps you increase your heart rate and burn your muscles and no matter what level you are you can come give it try.”

This summer, the Summit Area YMCA will be offering four new and intense HIIT workouts in both our Summit and Berkeley Heights locations. As an organization dedicated to healthy living and wellness which includes fitness, the Summit Area YMCA is excited to offer these new classes that fitness buffs along with anyone wanting to improve their fitness levels should try. While many of these classes are challenging, instructors will provide modifications in movements to make it possible for many fitness levels.
