BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Windt family made a visit to the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad headquarters to bring celebratory cup cakes to the Friday Night Crew that helped to deliver their daughter at their home last Friday, March 10.

When Angela Windt went into labor two weeks early, she realized her contractions were progressing too quickly and she wasn't going to make it to the hospital. Within 20 to 30 minutes after her water broke, Ava was born at 9:42 p.m. [weighing 6 pounds 10 ounces and 20 inches long].

Thanks to the Friday Night Crew: Andy Damato, Joe Plocinski and Nicole Segalini; the delivery went smoothly. "This particular crew -- we all know what to do," said Damato. "This was so textbook, everything happened exactly the way they show how it happens in training."

Rescue Squad Chief Sam Lloyd was immensely proud of her crew. "It felt like I could have been walking into a delivery room," said Lloyd. "Everything was calm and quiet -- it was beautiful."

These EMTs now share ties with the Windt family that will never be broken.

Big sister Alexa (5 1/2 years old) was elated to see the crew again to thank them with special pink cupcakes.

The crew also had a gift to present to Alexa and her baby sister Ava --  two teddy bears, which will surely be treasured by the family.

Segalini, the 18 years old EMT that was positioned to catch the baby, hasn't stopped beaming since the delivery. This aspiring surgeon is a senior at Gov. Livingston High School who has a new addendum to add to her list of accomplishments that very few, if any, GL students have ever experienced.

Segalini joined the Rescue Squad as part of the High School Cadet Program in January 2016 and started riding that March, exactly a year before delivering Ava.

Since becoming a certified EMT, her Friday night crew members have helped her to advance in her ranks in becoming a regular member. "They let me run the call and do the patient care," said Segalini. "I make decisions and they always have my back and teach me everything."

This close crew is like family and were thrilled  for this rare reunion. "This is the best call I have ever gone on," said Damato, who has been on at least a couple hundred calls in his 10 year tenure. -- "My Friday Night Crew -- I love them."

What's Hot and What's Not

Summer is a great time to take a step back, sip a cool beverage, and take a look at what’s going on in the world of college admissions.  Departments use the summer to evaluate how their year went and plan on any changes they want to make for the fall.  Did they over-enroll? Under-enroll?  What application materials were useful to them?  Which were redundant or time ...
