NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – A quick match was also an easy one for the Gov. Livingston wrestling team when it visited New Providence on Wednesday. The Pioneers had wrestlers for only eight of the weight classes and had to forfeit the remainder, allowing the Highlanders to prevail in a lopsided 57-22 win.

The Highlanders improve to 3-2 on the season while the Pioneers drop to 1-4.

Gov. Livingston dominated the entire match by winning 10 out of the 14 weight classes, including pins from Greg Friedenberg (113 pounds), Quinn Haddad (170 pounds) and Turner Haddad(195 pounds). Andre Moriak battled through a tight match with Marcello Bocellari to earn a 2-1 decision.

The Pioneers did have some success in John Palmer (106 pounds) who opened the match with a pin over Harrison Kelly and Joe Delia (160 pounds) who pinned Tani Marke. Owen Smith (145 pounds) added a convincing win with a (9-0) major decision over James Snyder.

Although the forfeits helped in Gov. Livingston's dominating win, GL head coach Rick Ortega credits the win as a team effort -- "everyone has a job -- these guys that aren't giving up six and not getting pinned are the ones that will matter when the match is close," said Ortega. "The guys that went out and wrestled and didn't give up six points -- that was a team effort."

Gov. Livingston will host Arthur L. Johnson on Fantastic Friday at 7 p.m. New Providence will host Morris Catholic on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Dear Editor:

As a 26-year-old Scotch Plains resident who cares more about the well-being of our town than about local politics, I am extremely disappointed that the Scotch Plains Democratic Committee leadership has decided to abandon Colleen Mahr in her run for Chair of the Union County Democratic Committee.

We Need More Women Like Colleen Mahr in Municipal, County and State Government

Dear Editor:

I’m proud to support Colleen Mahr for Chair of the Union County Democratic Committee  (UCDC) and am encouraging my Scotch Plains peers to join me.

Democratic Party Would Be Making a Big Mistake by Not Recognizing Colleen Mahr's Talents
