I have lived in Berkeley Heights since 1998. Although our Board of Education deserves credit for our schools being among the most well-regarded in New Jersey, maintaining the status quo is no longer good enough. There are serious problems on the horizon that require a change of direction. The Board’s relationship with teachers is at a breaking point; parent concerns are too often dismissed; and what was accepted as transparency in 2002 is unacceptable in 2020.
This is why Berkeley Heights needs Sai Bhargavi Akiri on the Board of Education. She represents fiscal prudence, forward thinking and transparency. I’ve known Sai for six years, and I can attest to her thoughtfulness and integrity. She is one of the most engaged and informed citizens in town and she treats everyone with respect.
Every current member of the current Board of Education grew up in either New Jersey or New York. It’s time to break free of our parochial way of thinking. Sai has lived in five countries and speaks six languages; she has the broader perspective the Board of Education needs.
Sai Bhargavi Akiri has my abiding friendship and admiration but most importantly, she has my vote.
