As the Berkeley Heights GOP Chairwoman, it is my responsibility to speak out when fringe Republican candidates, like Edmund Tom Maciejewski and George DeLuna, spread untruths. According to many resident accounts, these two candidates for town council have been conducting a door-to-door smear campaign against our endorsed and qualified Republican candidates.
Maciejewski has run a primary challenge against the endorsed Republican candidates for the last four years. Please know that this is not the first time this has happened with door to door communication. It is a shame that he continues to run “against” people and has few, if any, novel ideas of his own. However, this is the first time, I feel compelled to call him out publicly. Edmund Tom Maciejewski will come to your house and say anything to get your vote. He is currently peddling a lie that endorsed Republican candidates for Council, Councilwoman Jeanne Kingsley and Jeff Varnerin, want to "defund the police" or are “against the police.” Multiple residents have called our campaign, concerned about such an assertion.
Councilwoman Jeanne Kingsley and Jeff Varnerin were appalled to hear from residents that their opponents are spreading these lies. These outrageous claims are the furthest from the truth. Both Jeanne and Jeff have many friends and families all over the country serving the US in the armed forces as well as serving locally for police, fire and EMS.
We are urging Berkeley Heights residents to be extremely cautious when either Edmund Tom Maciejewski or George DeLuna knock on their doors in the coming days.
We hope everyone rejects this behavior. Thank you.
